#assam: Assam’s boxing star Lovlina Borgohain has scripted history at the Asian Games 2026, clinching the women’s 75kg gold medal on October 2 — and doing so on her 29th birthday.
Lovlina defeated China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5–0 decision in the final, putting together a composed performance built around sharp counter-punches and strong control throughout the bout.
Her journey to the final saw her overcome Kazakhstan’s Natalia Bogdanova in a closely contested 3–2 semifinal.
The gold marks Lovlina’s first Asian Games title and makes her the first Indian woman boxer since Mary Kom in 2014 to win Asian Games gold.
For Assam, the victory sparked celebrations and prayers across the state, with supporters also gathering at Lovlina’s residence in Barpathar to cheer for the boxer.
From the boxing ring to a golden birthday celebration — Lovlina has given Assam and India another moment to celebrate.
Congratulations, Lovlina!
