Before Navratri, Surat girls are being taught one clear rule: hurting an attacker in self-defence is not a crime. After the Gujarat High Court voiced serious concern over rising POCSO cases, the Surat District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has started going to schools, anganwadis, colleges and slum areas to teach girls under 18 their legal rights. They are told they can use what they have, a hairpin, a safety pin or vehicle keys, or give a hard kick to protect themselves, and they will not be punished for it. Girls also learn about good touch and bad touch. Surat Crime Branch's women's cell has been running school awareness since 2015 and asks parents to send daughters to self-defence class, not just garba class.
નવરાત્રિ પહેલા સુરતની દીકરીઓને એક સ્પષ્ટ વાત શીખવાઈ રહી છે: સ્વબચાવમાં હુમલો કરવો ગુનો નથી. પોક્સોના વધતા કેસો અંગે ગુજરાત હાઇકોર્ટની ચિંતા બાદ સુરત જિલ્લા કાનૂની સેવા સત્તા મંડળ (DLSA) શાળા, આંગણવાડી, કોલેજ અને સ્લમ વિસ્તારમાં 18 વર્ષથી નાની દીકરીઓને કાયદાની જાણકારી આપે છે. છેડતી થાય તો હેરપિન, સેફ્ટી પિન કે વાહનની ચાવીનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકાય કે જોરદાર કીક મારી શકાય, તેમાં કોઈ સજા થતી નથી. ગુડ ટચ-બેડ ટચની સમજ પણ અપાય છે. ક્રાઇમ બ્રાન્ચ 2015થી શાળાઓમાં જાગૃતિ લાવે છે અને વાલીઓને દોઢિયા ક્લાસ સાથે સેલ્ફ ડિફેન્સ ક્લાસમાં પણ દીકરીઓને મોકલવા અપીલ કરે છે.
नवरात्रि से पहले सूरत की बेटियों को एक साफ बात सिखाई जा रही है: आत्मरक्षा में हमला करना अपराध नहीं है। पॉक्सो के बढ़ते मामलों पर गुजरात हाईकोर्ट की चिंता के बाद सूरत जिला विधिक सेवा प्राधिकरण (DLSA) स्कूलों, आंगनवाड़ियों, कॉलेजों और बस्तियों में 18 साल से कम उम्र की बेटियों को कानून की जानकारी दे रहा है। छेड़छाड़ हो तो हेयरपिन, सेफ्टी पिन या गाड़ी की चाबी का इस्तेमाल कर सकती हैं या जोरदार किक मार सकती हैं, इसके लिए कोई सजा नहीं होती। गुड टच-बैड टच की समझ भी दी जा रही है। क्राइम ब्रांच 2015 से स्कूलों में जागरूकता चला रही है और माता-पिता से अपील करती है कि बेटियों को गरबा क्लास के साथ सेल्फ डिफेंस क्लास में भी भेजें।
