#News | The Union Cabinet has approved a productivity-linked bonus of 78 days for around 11.4 lakh railway employees ahead of Diwali, with a total financial outlay of Rs. 2,009 crore. The decision is aimed at recognising the contribution of railway staff to the functioning and performance of Indian Railways.
The bonus will benefit eligible non-gazetted railway employees across various categories. It is intended to reward their efforts in maintaining railway operations, ensuring the safe movement of passengers and freight, and supporting the overall performance of the national transporter.
The productivity-linked bonus is announced annually and is calculated based on the prescribed eligibility criteria and wage ceiling. Employees covered under the scheme are expected to receive the payment ahead of the festive season, providing additional financial support during the celebrations.
The approval comes ahead of Diwali, when bonus payments traditionally provide a boost to household spending. The government’s decision is also expected to benefit the wider economy by increasing disposable income among railway employees and supporting festive-season demand.
