Police Take Cognizance of Viral Video Showing Woman Being Assaulted in Shimla
Case Registered at Sadar Shimla Police Station; Mohali Resident Anmol Khosla Bound Down Under BNSS Provisions
Shimla, September 24, 2026: Taking cognizance of a video circulated on social media on September 23, 2026, in which a person was seen allegedly assaulting a woman, the Shimla Police verified the video and initiated legal proceedings in the matter.
Based on the verification of the video, FIR No. 126/26 was registered at Police Station Sadar Shimla under Sections 74, 79 and 115(2).
During the course of investigation, the police identified and traced the woman and the man seen in the video. Both were subsequently called to Police Station Sadar Shimla for questioning. During the inquiry, both stated that they were husband and wife. They informed the police that they had got married in May and had come to Shimla for the first time to visit the city.
The woman was questioned separately regarding the incident, and her statement was recorded by the police. At the same time, the viral video has been secured as part of the investigation, while necessary electronic evidence is being collected and preserved. The police are also verifying the reported scene of the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.
Based on the facts and evidence available so far, Anmol Khosla, a resident of Mohali, Punjab, has been bound down under the relevant provisions of the BNSS in connection with the case. Legal action is being taken against him in the said case in accordance with the law.
The investigation into the matter is currently underway. Further legal action will be taken on the basis of additional facts and evidence that emerge during the course of the investigation.
