Surat Municipal Corporation turns 60 today. The civic body was constituted as the Surat Municipal Corporation on October 1, 1966, after working for decades as the Surat Sudhrai. Since then Surat has grown from a small town into India's eighth largest city, with more than 80 lakh people, known as the Diamond City and among the country's cleanest cities. Its heritage headquarters, the old Mughal Sarai where the Sudhrai began work in 1867, was renamed Shree Tapi Bhavan in March. On this 60th birthday, SMC has set a new goal: a world-class Surat by 2047. Mayor Maya Mavani plans to propose that everyone in SMC gives and receives books instead of bouquets all year.
સુરત મહાનગરપાલિકા આજે 60 વર્ષની થઈ. વર્ષો સુધી સુરત સુધરાઈ તરીકે કામ કર્યા બાદ 1 ઓક્ટોબર, 1966ના રોજ સુરત મહાનગરપાલિકાની રચના થઈ હતી. ત્યારથી સુરત નાના શહેરમાંથી 80 લાખથી વધુ વસ્તી ધરાવતું દેશનું આઠમું સૌથી મોટું શહેર બન્યું છે, જે ડાયમંડ સિટી અને દેશના સૌથી સ્વચ્છ શહેરોમાં ગણાય છે. 1867થી સુધરાઈ જ્યાંથી કામ કરતી તે ઐતિહાસિક મુઘલસરાઈનું નામ માર્ચમાં "શ્રી તાપી ભવન" રખાયું. 60મા જન્મદિવસે SMCએ 2047 સુધીમાં સુરતને વર્લ્ડ-ક્લાસ શહેર બનાવવાનું લક્ષ્ય રાખ્યું છે. મેયર માયા માવાણી આખું વર્ષ બુકેને બદલે પુસ્તક આપવા-લેવાનો સંકલ્પ પ્રસ્તાવિત કરશે.
सूरत महानगरपालिका आज 60 साल की हो गई. बरसों तक सूरत सुधराई के रूप में काम करने के बाद 1 अक्टूबर, 1966 को सूरत महानगरपालिका का गठन हुआ था. तब से सूरत एक छोटे शहर से 80 लाख से ज़्यादा आबादी वाला देश का आठवां सबसे बड़ा शहर बन गया है, जिसे डायमंड सिटी और देश के सबसे स्वच्छ शहरों में गिना जाता है. 1867 से सुधराई जिस ऐतिहासिक मुगलसराय से काम करती थी, उसका नाम मार्च में "श्री तापी भवन" रखा गया. 60वें जन्मदिन पर SMC ने 2047 तक सूरत को वर्ल्ड-क्लास शहर बनाने का लक्ष्य रखा है. मेयर माया मावाणी पूरे साल बुके की जगह किताबें देने-लेने का संकल्प प्रस्तावित करेंगी.
