#assam: CJP Co-Convenor Ashutosh Ranka Detained by Dispur Police Ahead of Volunteers’ Meet in Guwahati
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and several party workers were detained by police in Guwahati on Sunday, September 27, 2026, shortly after arriving for the organisation’s scheduled Volunteer Meet-Up.
According to reports, Ranka was detained alongside three participants who had travelled from Nagaland. Several other attendees were also taken into custody as they arrived at the venue carrying a banner announcing the volunteers’ gathering. Those detained reportedly included Khargeswar Milli, Sheikh Sahiluddin Shah, Hitesh Barua, Mintu Das and Tommy Barua. 
Before his detention, Ranka questioned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the condition of government schools and raised concerns about land, forests and water resources in Kaziranga.
The volunteers’ meeting was scheduled to bring together CJP members and supporters in Assam. The reported detentions took place before the programme could begin.
As of the latest available reports, the police had not publicly clarified the grounds for the detentions or the whereabouts of all those taken into custody.
