
International Day of Older Persons Celebrated In Rourkela.
Rourkela, October 1, 2026 (SatyaNewsAlert): The Sub-Divisional Level International Day of Older Persons–2026 was observed at Panposh on Thursday with a focus on the dignity, safety, welfare and well-being of senior citizens.
The programme was organised at the Model Senior Citizen Help Centre near Chhend Police Station under the leadership of Panposh Sub-Collector Chandrakant Mallik. Ravi Meena, DFO, Rourkela, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Sneha Nayak, ASP, Rourkela, was present as the Guest of Honour.
Additional Sub-Collector, Panposh, Chandini, and Mahendra Kumar Mohanty, President of the Model Senior Citizen Help Centre, were also present on the occasion. Representatives of the Retired Police Association, Senior Citizen Association, Biramitrapur and Jagda also participated in the programme.
The proceedings were conducted by Minu Tandiya, Sub-Divisional Social Security Officer, Panposh, with the support of SSO Panposh Prakash Kumar Das. Officials and staff of the Panposh Sub-Collector’s office extended active cooperation in ensuring the smooth conduct of the event.
A number of activities were organised as part of the observance, including a health camp, yoga session, awareness programme, various competitions for school students, inter-generational activities, plantation and distribution of saplings. A medical team from Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) provided full support for the health camp.
As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, saplings were planted and distributed to promote awareness about environmental protection and encourage community participation in greenery initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, the guests emphasised the importance of respect, care, protection and support for senior citizens, while highlighting the valuable experience, wisdom and contributions of older persons to society. The programme also sought to strengthen inter-generational bonds and promote greater social sensitivity towards the needs and welfare of senior citizens.
Officials and employees from various departments, senior citizens and students participated in the programme. The event concluded with a collective emphasis on building a society where older persons are treated with dignity, care and respect.
