Live Gynaecological Oncology Workshop held at Ispat General Hospital of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant
A live operative Gynaecological Oncology Workshop was organised by the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OBGY), Ispat General Hospital (IGH), Rourkela, on 8th August 2026, with the objective of strengthening clinical knowledge and operative skills in the areas of gynaecological cancers.
As part of the workshop, a 74-year-old woman, a former employee, diagnosed with early-stage endometrial cancer (uterine cancer) following histopathological examination, underwent cancer surgery at IGH. Dr. Satyajit Mishra, Onco-Gynaecologist from MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, was invited as the Chief Surgeon for the procedure. He was assisted by Dr. Byasadev Mishra, Senior Consultant, O&G, and Dr. Priya Kumari, Senior Medical Officer, O&G.
The anaesthesia team was led by Dr. Manoranjan Samantray, Addl. CMO, along with Dr. Smita Kujur, Senior Consultant and DNB students Dr. Projit and Dr. Nilotpal. Sister Namita and Anaesthesia Sister Rasna assisted the team during the procedure.
The live surgery was relayed to the New Conference Hall enabling doctors and students to observe the operative procedure and gain practical insights into the surgical management of endometrial cancer.
The live surgical demonstration was followed by academic sessions by Dr. Satyajit Mishra and Dr. Satyaranjan Das, Associate Professor, Department of O&G, Hi-Tech Medical College. The academic session was presided over by Dr. Megharay Majhi, CMO (M&HS). The sessions were smoothly conducted by Dr. Madhumita Sahoo, Addl. CMO; Dr. Bonnisikha Roychaudhury, Addl. CMO; and Dr. Divya Evelyn Kuardar, Senior Consultant, O&G Department.
The programme was attended by around 15 doctors and 20 DNB and DGO students from the Departments of O&G, Anaesthesia and Pathology.
The workshop provided an important platform for doctors to enhance their understanding of gynaecological oncology, observe advanced operative techniques and strengthen their clinical skills in managing endometrial cancer.
