#News || K9 Dog Leon, the Belgian Malinois famously known as Kaziranga’s “super sniffer,” has retired from active service after nearly eight years of dedicated wildlife protection duty.
Leon retired on August 15 after joining active duty in November 2018 following specialised training.
During his career, Leon completed more than 200 patrols and participated in over 30 specialised operations with the Assam Forest Department and Assam Police.
During the 2019 floods, Leon tracked a suspect’s scent for nearly 20 km, helping authorities apprehend a suspected rhino poacher.
In 2023, he also helped locate crucial evidence and track four suspected poachers.
After years of service, Leon retires with an impressive record and a lasting legacy in Kaziranga’s fight against wildlife crime.
