#News || The Assam government has introduced the Assam Private Coaching Institute Control and Students’ Mental Health Safeguard Act, 2026, aimed at regulating coaching centres and strengthening student safety.
Under the new rules, coaching institutes with more than 50 students must register with the authorities.
The norms also require institutes to provide access to clinical psychologists for student counselling, including support before examination results are announced.
The government will further regulate the physical design and safety features of coaching centres, including measures related to fans and windows to reduce the risk of self-harm.
The government said the measures aim to create a safer, healthier and more supportive learning environment while addressing academic pressure and student mental health concerns.

![#News || K9 Dog Leon, the Belgian Malinois famously known as Kaziranga’s “super sniffer,” has retired from active service after nearly eight years of dedicated wildlife protection duty.
Leon retired on August 15 after joining active duty in November 2018 following specialised training.
During his career, Leon completed more than 200 patrols and participated in over 30 specialised operations with the Assam Forest Department and Assam Police.
During the 2019 floods, Leon tracked a suspect’s scent for nearly 20 km, helping authorities apprehend a suspected rhino poacher.
In 2023, he also helped locate crucial evidence and track four suspected poachers.
After years of service, Leon retires with an impressive record and a lasting legacy in Kaziranga’s fight against wildlife crime.
