Sunday evenings are meant be unhurried. So I let the evening decide, and it led me here.
Tucked into Gandhi Bazaar, Mahalakshmi Tiffin Room has been quietly doing its thing since 1926 — long before Basavanagudi looked anything like it does today. Wooden chairs, marble tables, a menu board that hasn’t changed in spirit even if the prices have.
I started with the Kali dosa, and honestly, it melted in the mouth — dark, soft, nothing like the crisp dosas everyone’s used to. Then the masala dosa, a single idly, and a jamoon for good measure, because why stop at one thing when everything’s this good. The filter coffee arrived last, strong and unhurried, the perfect way to close out the evening.
Places like this still carry the old charm of Bengaluru. They just are. And on a slow Sunday, that’s all you need. ☕🌆
