Illegal Firecracker Godown Busted in Rourkela, Firecrackers Worth ₹1.5 Lakh Seized
Rourkela, September 3, 2026 (SatyaNewsAlert) : Police detected an alleged illegal firecracker godown at Utkal Basti in Sector-18 under Sector-15 police limits in Rourkela on Thursday and seized a large quantity of firecrackers stored without a valid licence.
According to police, SI Ambika Marndi of Sector-15 Police Station detected the godown and seized 22 packed cartons containing different types and brands of firecrackers, weighing a total of 265.08 kg. The seized firecrackers are estimated to be worth around ₹1.5 lakh.
During verification, the godown was found to belong to Deepak Kumar Sha (28), son of Bijay Sha, a resident of Sector-18 Utkal Basti under Sector-15 police limits.
Police said that when asked to produce a licence or other valid documents authorising possession and storage of the firecrackers, Sha allegedly failed to provide any such licence. He reportedly stated that the firecrackers had been stored for sale to the general public for personal gain.
The accused was apprehended by police in connection with the case. His criminal antecedents are yet to be verified.
Seized: 22 cartons of assorted firecrackers weighing 265.08 kg, valued at approximately ₹1.5 lakh.
