Before leaving from India this morning, I saw this news shared by a few friends. And I just couldn’t believe it. The whole day has been very intense, Nepal is mourning the loss of lives, and so am I.
A massive flash flood entered Nepal from the Tibet side this morning through the Bhotekoshi River. At least 17 dead. Over 300 missing. The same river system was hit by a confirmed glacial lake outburst just 13 months ago. The glacier doesn’t need to cross the border for its hazard to cross the border. Our warning systems need to move faster than the hazards themselves.
