
Farmers Trapped in Floodwater While Harvesting Pointed Gourd, Rescued After 3 Hours .
Bonai, August 16 (SatyaNewsAlert): Heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life and transportation across several parts of the Bonai subdivision. While roads have been washed away in parts of Koida Block, flood-like conditions have emerged in several areas of Bonai, creating concern among local residents.
According to reports, some farmers had cultivated pointed gourd near Bijadihi under Bonai Police Station limits. The farmers had gone to their fields to harvest pointed gourds when floodwater suddenly entered the area following continuous heavy rainfall.
Caught off guard by the rapidly rising water, the farmers desperately sought a safe place and took shelter on nearby trees to save their lives. They reportedly remained stranded on the trees for nearly three hours, as strong currents and rising water made it impossible for them to return to safety.
After receiving information about the incident, the Fire Services personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Following sustained efforts, the stranded farmers were safely rescued from the trees.
They were subsequently taken to Gurundia Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
The incident highlights the danger posed by sudden flooding following heavy rainfall in the Bonai subdivision. With several low-lying areas witnessing a rise in water levels, residents have been urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing near rivers, streams, flooded agricultural fields and other waterlogged areas.
