#News | Assam’s Lovlina Borgohain clinched the gold medal in the women’s 75kg boxing event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Friday, defeating China’s Ziyi Bao by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final. The victory marked a significant upgrade from the silver medal she won at the Hangzhou Asian Games and came on her 28th birthday.
With the triumph, Lovlina became only the second Indian woman boxer to win an Asian Games gold medal, joining the elite company of MC Mary Kom, who achieved the feat in 2014. She had earlier secured her place in the final with a 3-2 split-decision victory over Kazakhstan’s reigning 70kg world champion Natalya Bogdanova in the semifinals.
Lovlina’s gold adds another major medal to her decorated international career, which already includes an Olympic bronze, World Championship medals and an Asian Games silver. Her victory in Nagoya comes after she won silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The victory also ended India’s wait for a boxing gold at the Asian Games since 2018 and became the country’s 12th gold medal at the ongoing 2026 edition. For Assam, Lovlina’s achievement marks another landmark moment for the state’s sporting fraternity.
