
UGIE Alumni Association Inaugurates ‘Gyan Dwar Udyan’, Launches Tree Plantation Drive
Rourkela, August 16, 2026: (SatyaNewsAlert) The UGIE Alumni Association, Rourkela, inaugurated ‘Gyan Dwar Udyan’ and organised a tree plantation drive at the campus of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Institute of Engineering (UGIE), Rourkela, on Sunday morning. The programme, held at 8:30 am, was conducted with enthusiasm under the theme “Green UGIE, Clean UGIE.”
Raghunathpali MLA and Chairman of the Sundargarh District Planning Committee Durga Charan Tanti attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Rourkela MLA and Patron of the UGIE Alumni Association Er. Sarada Prasad Nayak inaugurated the ‘Gyan Dwar Udyan’.
Among the distinguished guests were Er. Yasaswini Mishra, Superintending Engineer, Roads & Buildings; Bhagaban Pati, former Divisional Forest Officer, Rourkela; Suchismita Das, Ranger, Rourkela; and Rabindra Kumar Kar, Principal, Government ITI, Rourkela.
Cultural Programme and Welcome Address
The programme commenced with the UGIE Anthem, followed by a captivating dance performance by UGIE students. Their impressive presentation was widely appreciated by the guests and audience.
UGIE Alumni Association President Er. Bailochan Samal delivered the welcome address and extended greetings to the Chief Guest, inaugural guest, dignitaries, alumni members, faculty, staff and students. He highlighted the association’s role and future plans towards keeping the UGIE campus green, clean and beautiful while promoting environmental protection.
Hema Mishra was specially felicitated for her valuable contribution and support towards the development and construction of ‘Gyan Dwar Udyan’. The Alumni Association expressed its gratitude for her significant contribution.
The garden was formally inaugurated in the presence of the dignitaries, following which the guests planted saplings to mark the beginning of the environmental initiative.
Around 300 Saplings Planted
As part of the plantation drive, around 300 saplings were planted on the UGIE campus. Members of the Alumni Association, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students participated enthusiastically in the programme.
Various species, including Terminalia, Syzygium, China Doll, Kachchamp, Kaner, Mandar and Bougainvillea, were planted to enhance the beauty of the garden and make the campus greener.
A Step Towards Environmental Awareness
The ‘Gyan Dwar Udyan’ is envisioned not merely as an initiative to beautify the UGIE campus but as a meaningful symbol of the harmony between knowledge, nature and environmental conservation. The garden is expected to inspire students to develop greater love for nature, take an active interest in tree plantation and cultivate a sense of responsibility towards environmental protection.
The UGIE Alumni Association reaffirmed its commitment to continuing various welfare-oriented initiatives in the areas of campus development, environmental protection, cleanliness, student development and social responsibility.
UGIE Alumni Association General Secretary Er. Subhendu Panda proposed the vote of thanks. He expressed sincere gratitude to all the guests for taking time from their busy schedules to attend the programme. He also emphasised that the collective support of alumni, administration, faculty, staff, students and society is essential for the overall development of UGIE.
Er. Panda thanked all alumni members and students for their active participation in the plantation drive and sought continued cooperation for future development initiatives at UGIE.
