#News | Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has appealed to the public, NGOs and voluntary organisations to donate new clothes and essential relief materials instead of used garments to support families affected by the recent floods, particularly in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts. Addressing a press conference following the State Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said several organisations had approached the government seeking guidance on the most useful items to contribute for ongoing relief operations. He urged donors to prioritise phenyl, baby food and new clothes, stating that these items are currently among the most urgent requirements in flood-hit areas. The Chief Minister noted that used clothes may not be readily accepted by many affected families and could also pose health risks, as flood victims are already vulnerable to infections due to poor living conditions and prolonged exposure to contaminated water. Emphasising the importance of maintaining hygiene, Dr. Sarma said disinfectants such as phenyl would help prevent the spread of diseases in flood-affected areas. He also highlighted the need for baby food to support infants and young children facing difficult conditions in relief camps and affected villages. The Chief Minister appealed to individuals and organisations to donate new shirts, T-shirts, children’s clothing and traditional attire such as mekhela sador, particularly for women and children. He said these essential items, along with hygiene supplies and baby food, would provide meaningful support to families as the government continues relief and rehabilitation efforts across the flood-aff#cted districts.
