Forest Seed & Biodiversity Festival 2026 Held in Dhenkanal

A Forest Seed and Biodiversity Festival-2026, aimed at reviving traditional knowledge and promoting environmental awareness, was held at Baunspokhari Panchayat office premises under Hindol block of Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.
The programme was organized by Trinath Behera, President of the Jungle Environment Protection Forum. Sub-Collector Prabhas Kumar Behura inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon. Among the dignitaries present were Tahasildar Dillip Kumar Sethi, Forest Range Officer Trilochan Dehury, MP’s representative Sushanta Pati, Sarpanch Ranjit Pradhan, senior citizen Upendra Mahunta, and journalists Santosh Kumar Mahapatra and Dipak Naik.
A major attraction of the festival was an exhibition featuring 93 varieties of forest seeds collected from local forests, displayed by schoolchildren. Students from schools and colleges also highlighted the importance of biodiversity conservation and preservation of traditional knowledge.
Addressing the gathering, Sub-Collector Behura emphasized the need to revive and safeguard traditional ecological knowledge for sustainable development. Forest protection committee members from different blocks of Dhenkanal were felicitated with certificates and fruit saplings for their contributions to conservation efforts.
The programme was coordinated by noted magician Bimal Biswal, while Surya Narayan Singh, Secretary of the Forum, presented the annual report. The event concluded with a pledge for environmental protection and a vote of thanks. A large number of students, forest protection committee members, and women participated in the awareness programme.
