#Dibrugarh | The 74th Yonex Sunrise All Assam Inter-District Badminton Championship, 2026, is set to be held in Dibrugarh from August 27 to September 2. The championship is being organised by the Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DDSA) under the aegis of the Assam Badminton Association.
Addressing a press conference, DDSA President Niranjan Saikia and General Secretary Kamakhya Saikia informed that 17 district teams from across Assam will participate in the championship. The participating districts include Nazira, Bongaigaon, Naharkatia, Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Tezpur, Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Nalbari, Kamrup, Rangia and Nagaon.
More than 1,000 players have registered for the championship, highlighting the growing popularity of badminton across the state. Alongside the tournament, 50 candidates will also appear for a Referee Examination being conducted in association with the championship.
According to DDSA General Secretary Kamakhya Saikia, this is the first time an Inter-District Badminton Championship is being hosted at the DDSA’s own Indoor Stadium in Dibrugarh, marking an important milestone for the district’s sporting infrastructure.
The championship has received support from several sponsors, including Vizag Port, which contributed ₹2 lakh; Deendayal Port with ₹2.94 lakh; Mangalore Port with ₹4 lakh; along with JNPA and AGCL.
DDSA expressed gratitude to all sponsors, participating districts, players, officials, referees, volunteers and well-wishers for their support towards organising the championship.
DDSA President Niranjan Saikia further informed that Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the inaugural ceremony on the evening of August 27.
The seven-day championship is expected to provide a major platform for badminton players from across Assam and further strengthen the sporting environment in Dibrugarh and the state.
DDSA Working President Manas Jyoti Dutta and Badminton Secretary Sunil Gogoi were also present at the press conference.
