Building a stronger disaster response ecosystem through coordination, capacity and commitment
Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, Shri Rajeev Krishna participated in the inaugural session of the “National Seminar on Flood and Flood-Related Disaster Management”, jointly organised by the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (UPSDMA) and Central Command in Lucknow.
The seminar aimed to strengthen inter-agency coordination for effective management of floods and water-related disasters, facilitate exchange of experiences and best practices, and further enhance disaster preparedness mechanisms.
In his address, the DGP highlighted the five key pillars of Uttar Pradesh Police’s disaster management strategy — Prevention, Preparedness, Prediction, Protection and Prompt Response — and reiterated the force’s commitment to preventing loss of lives in water-related incidents.
He stated that under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, the disaster response capacity of the State has significantly strengthened since the establishment of SDRF in 2017.
He informed that at present, 17 flood relief companies of PAC comprising 51 platoons, along with 6 companies of SDRF comprising 18 teams, with nearly 2,500 trained personnel, remain ever-ready to respond to floods and other disasters. He further mentioned that Uttar Pradesh Police has implemented a detailed SOP for ghat safety to prevent water-related accidents.
The DGP also stated that during the massive Prayagraj Mahakumbh-2025, not a single life was lost due to drowning, which stands as an outstanding example of Uttar Pradesh Police’s preparedness, capability and effective water-safety management.
