#News || The official launch of the Assam Premier League (APL) has generated excitement across the state, but one noticeable absence has caught the attention of cricket fans in Lakhimpur—the district has not been included among the eight franchise teams for the inaugural season.
The first edition of the league will feature teams representing Guwahati, Jorhat, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Barpeta, Charaideo, and Barak. However, despite Lakhimpur’s rich sporting culture and growing pool of talented cricketers, the district does not have a franchise this season.
Many local cricket enthusiasts are hopeful that the Assam Cricket Association will expand the league in the coming years and include a Lakhimpur-based franchise, giving local players another major platform to showcase their talent.
With strong grassroots cricket and passionate supporters, many believe Lakhimpur has the potential to become a valuable addition to the Assam Premier League in future editions.
