#News | Assam’s rich cultural and traditional heritage has received a significant boost with four more indigenous products being granted Geographical Indication (GI) tags, a recognition expected to enhance their market value and safeguard their authenticity. The Geographical Indications Registry of the Government of India has awarded GI status to Karbi Anglong Handloom Products, Assam Bihu Pepa, Assam Bamboo Crafts and Deuri Handloom Products. The achievement marks another milestone in the state’s efforts to preserve and promote its unique cultural traditions and craftsmanship. The initiative was supported by NABARD Assam, which has been actively facilitating the registration of distinctive products from the state. With the latest additions, the number of GI-certified products supported by NABARD in Assam has increased to 12. This efforts will now focus on branding, promotion, market development and capacity building to ensure that the GI-certified products gain wider recognition and contribute to sustainable rural economic growth across Assam.
