#assam: Hundreds of flood-affected residents from Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat travelled to Guwahati on Wednesday to participate in a mass protest organised by Raijor Dal at Chachal, demanding immediate relief and compensation for families affected by the devastating July floods.
The protesters alleged that many affected families were still awaiting adequate government assistance and called for a proper assessment of losses, transparent distribution of relief and timely compensation. Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi reiterated the demand for ₹10 lakh compensation for families whose homes and belongings were destroyed, along with an inquiry into the causes of the floods.
A large number of women and families travelled from Upper Assam to join the demonstration, with protesters saying they continue to struggle to rebuild their homes and livelihoods after losing property, crops and other assets to the floods.
