Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, India, participated in the Ministerial Roundtable on the sustainable utilisation of medicinal plant resources on 17 October 2026, during the World Traditional Medicine Conference in Beijing, China. The roundtable brought together health ministers and senior health officials from participating countries to discuss the sustainable utilisation of medicinal plant resources.
The discussions focused on the global demand for medicinal plant resources and their potential role in disease prevention, health promotion and healthcare, particularly in developing countries. The initiative aimed to encourage countries to contribute towards making medicinal plants a significant health resource worldwide.
The roundtable also provided a platform for health ministers to share their views and recommendations on the initiative and its next steps, fostering mutual learning and exchange among countries. It aimed to build international consensus on the sustainable utilisation of medicinal plant resources and contribute to the broader goals of traditional medicine for all and universal health coverage.
