District Commissioner & Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Bongaigaon, Shri Lakhinandan Saharia, reviewed the disaster situation and damage assessment in the district for 2026–27, covering incidents of storm, flood, erosion and lightning. The meeting also considered and recommended schemes under the 2nd Phase of SDRF/SDMF.
The meeting was attended by the CEO, DDMA, Circle Officers, Heads of Line Departments and Sri Nurul Islam, Hon’ble MLA, 17-Srijangram LAC, as a permanent invitee to the DDMA.
The DDMA recommended 24 PWD (Roads) SDRF schemes and 21 Power Department SDRF schemes. The meeting also stressed the need to strengthen disaster preparedness and risk-reduction measures, including installation of warning signage and safety barriers near vulnerable water bodies, drowning-awareness campaigns, Smart River Monitoring Systems along the Aie, Champabati and Manas rivers, and establishment of School Disaster Labs for disaster awareness, preparedness and first-aid training.
