#assam: Locals in Guwahati’s Dharapur staged a protest on September 26 following the death of Nimisha Thakuria, a 5th-semester student of the Five Years Integrated Masters Programme in Education at Gauhati University.
Nimisha was found dead at Rudra’s Kitchen homestay in Garal, Dharapur, during the early hours of September 26. She was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital by three boys.
Police have detained Ashik Ali, who is alleged to be Nimisha’s boyfriend, in connection with the case.
During the protest, locals raised concerns over alleged “love jihad” cases and urged the district administration to take action against homestays operating without proper registration.
The exact circumstances surrounding Nimisha’s death remain under investigation.
