#News | The three-day silver jubilee celebrations of Jyoti Moina Parijat concluded on July 19 at the Paltan Bazar Sarbajanin Durga Puja Mandap premises in Dibrugarh. Established in 2001, the cultural organisation marked 25 years of service with programmes held under the theme “Ami Puhor Bisari Jao,” reaffirming its commitment to preserving indigenous culture and promoting community values. A key highlight of the celebrations was the presentation of the “Distinguished Social Worker and Accomplished Teacher Late Pratibha Dutta Memorial Award-2026” to Dr. Surajit Giri, senior physician at Dimow Model Hospital and a noted expert in snakebite treatment. The award, instituted in memory of former teacher and social worker Late Pratibha Dutta of Greater Paltan Bazar, is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to society. Dr. Giri was honoured for his contribution to strengthening snakebite management across Assam. As an advisor to the Assam government on emergency snakebite treatment, he has helped train doctors in rural hospitals to provide timely medical care, contributing to a steady decline in snakebite-related deaths across the state over the past five years. The initiative aims to eliminate snakebite fatalities completely. The programme also featured an address by the District Commissioner, who encouraged the children of Jyoti Moina Parijat to value education and strive to become responsible, socially conscious and mentally resilient citizens. The memorial award was presented on behalf of the family of Late Pratibha Dutta by Jatin Dutta, Secretary of the Paltan Bazar Rajahua Namghar, along with other members of the Dutta family.
