#News || Joymoti, a 53-year-old female elephant rescued from devastating floodwaters in Nagaland, is being airlifted to Vantara in Jamnagar for specialised veterinary care.
Rescued in July with the support of local communities and government agencies, Joymoti suffered multiple injuries after being swept away by floodwaters. She has wounds on her forehead, right ear, abdomen, left inner thigh and near the base of her tail.
Her condition was further complicated by a deep wound around her external genital area, which had become infested with maggots. She is also blind in her right eye due to severe damage and continues to suffer from persistent tearing.
Joymoti has also been living with longstanding lameness in her left hind leg following a fracture sustained during logging. The condition has severely affected her mobility and made it difficult for her to reach food and water.
She is now being moved to Vantara, where she will receive advanced veterinary treatment and rehabilitation aimed at improving her health, mobility and overall quality of life.
