NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) principal owner and actor John Abraham has set an ambitious target for the Northeast, saying he expects the region to supply 60 to 70 per cent of the players in India’s national and Under-23 football teams within the next two years.

Speaking on the sidelines of NorthEast United FC’s jersey launch event in association with Reebok in Mumbai on Saturday, John said developing football talent from the Northeast was central to his vision for the Guwahati-based club and its academy.

“The idea is to get football players to represent other clubs internationally. That’s how people will look back at India,” John said.
