Under the proposed amendments, offenders could face imprisonment of up to 10 years and fines of up to ₹50 lakh. The government has maintained that tougher provisions are necessary to deter organised attempts to leak question papers and manipulate recruitment and competitive examinations. The Bill comes amid growing concerns over examination irregularities and paper leaks, which have affected students and candidates appearing for various competitive and recruitment examinations. With its passage in the Lok Sabha, the legislation will now move through the remaining parliamentary process before it can become law.
