Japan’s Nagoya witnessed its heaviest hourly rainfall since records began in 1890, as 104.5 mm of rain fell in just one hour on September 8. The record-breaking downpour flooded streets within minutes, disrupted transport and suspended all six subway lines.
Bullet train services were also halted, while evacuation orders were issued for around 2.41 million people as authorities responded to the sudden and devastating flooding.
