India’s Defence Ministry is considering modifying Su-30MKI fighter jets to integrate Russia’s RVV-BD long-range air-to-air missile. Reports say the missile can engage aerial targets at distances of up to 300 km and travel at speeds of around Mach 6. The RVV-BD is designed to target high-value aircraft, including airborne early-warning, command and reconnaissance platforms. India operates more than 260 Su-30MKIs and is already pursuing major upgrades to improve their sensors, avionics and weapons. The integration would significantly expand the fighter’s beyond-visual-range combat capabilities. India is also developing the Astra missile family and operates French Meteor missiles, giving its fighter fleet multiple long-range air-combat options.
