#news| A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men posing as police officers inside Astha Kunj Park near Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple on Monday evening. One of the accused, identified as Asif, was arrested hours later following an alleged exchange of fire with police, while efforts are underway to trace the other two suspects.
According to police, the teenager had visited Kalkaji Mandir with a male friend for darshan. The two later entered Astha Kunj Park through Gate No. 7, where the three accused allegedly approached them while posing as police officers.
The suspects reportedly separated the girl from her friend and took her to an isolated area of the park. Police said Asif allegedly threatened her with a firearm and a knife before assaulting her. The other two suspects allegedly assaulted her as well.
Police received a distress call at around 8:45 pm and officers from Amar Colony police station reached the park, where they found the girl and her friend. The teenager was subsequently taken to AIIMS for medical examination, while forensic teams collected evidence from the scene.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police later received information about Asif’s whereabouts near DM Office Road in Amar Colony and set up a trap. According to police, Asif allegedly opened fire at the officers and fired three rounds when asked to surrender. One bullet reportedly struck the bulletproof vest of Head Constable Rajesh, following which police returned fire and hit Asif in the right leg.
Asif was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. Police teams are continuing efforts to locate the remaining two accused.
