Lathikata Tahasildar Arrested; Vigilance Unearths Additional ₹5.74 Lakh Cash and Assets Worth Crores
Sundargarh/Rourkela, August 21 (SatyaNewsAlert): The Odisha Vigilance has arrested Muralidhar Urmal, Tahasildar-cum-Sub-Registrar of Lathikata, and forwarded him to court in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets case. Urmal was intercepted by Vigilance officials on Thursday while allegedly carrying ₹5 lakh in cash. During questioning, he reportedly admitted that the money had been collected as bribe from people.
Following the interception, the Odisha Vigilance launched a detailed investigation into allegations of possession of assets disproportionate to Urmal’s known sources of income. During searches conducted at multiple locations in Sundargarh and Rourkela, Vigilance officials recovered an additional ₹5.74 lakh in cash.
Including the ₹5 lakh seized from Urmal during his interception, the total cash recovered so far stands at ₹10.74 lakh.
During the searches, Vigilance officials also detected a two-storey building measuring approximately 3,700 square feet at Karamdihi in Sundargarh, along with six valuable plots located in Sundargarh and on the outskirts of Rourkela.
The searches further revealed gold jewellery valued at approximately ₹55 lakh and 635 grams of silver ornaments.
Apart from immovable and jewellery assets, Vigilance officials found approximately ₹66.10 lakh in deposits across banks, post offices and insurance schemes. One Hyundai car and three two-wheelers were also detected.
Searches and verification at various locations are still underway. Further details are expected to emerge after a comprehensive assessment and valuation of the assets and financial transactions detected during the investigation.
