Potato and Onion Prices Rise in Rourkela; Supply Department Intensifies Market Inspections
Rourkela, August 20 (SatyaNewsAlert): Consumers in Rourkela are facing another bout of price pressure as retail prices of potatoes and onions have increased in the city’s markets. Potatoes are currently being sold at around ₹18 to ₹20 per kg, while onions are priced at ₹50 to ₹55 per kg in the retail market. In the wholesale market, onion prices are reportedly ranging between ₹38 and ₹45 per kg.
Amid the price rise, the Supply Department conducted inspections at several retail shops in the Daily Market and Traffic Gate areas of Rourkela on Wednesday. Inspections are also being carried out at several locations in the city today to monitor the prevailing prices.
During the inspections, officials cautioned traders against selling potatoes and onions at inflated prices. Shopkeepers were directed to keep retail prices under control and ensure that consumers are not charged excessively.
The inspections are part of the administration’s efforts to monitor the prices of essential commodities and prevent unreasonable price hikes. The authorities are expected to continue such checks to safeguard consumer interests and provide relief from the rising prices of essential food items.
