
#News | Assam has achieved a major milestone in wildlife conservation by recording more than 860 consecutive days without a single rhino poaching incident. The state has also reclaimed 16,937 hectares of encroached forest land, reflecting intensified efforts to protect its forests and biodiversity.
Building on these achievements, the Assam Government has allocated ₹970 crore to the Forest Department in the 2026–27 Budget to further strengthen forest conservation and climate resilience. The funding will support biodiversity protection, restoration of degraded forest ecosystems, anti-encroachment initiatives, wildlife conservation and sustainable environmental management.
The government said the investment is aimed at enhancing the state's ecological security while ensuring the long-term preservation of Assam's rich natural heritage for future generations. Informs Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media that the state continues to prioritise environmental sustainability alongside economic development.
