#assam: Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that travel time between Shillong and Guwahati could be reduced to just one hour once ongoing highway and infrastructure projects are completed. Speaking at the North East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition (NEIINFRA) 2026 in Shillong, Gadkari highlighted the Centre’s strong push toward accelerating infrastructure development across the Northeast. He emphasized that improved road connectivity will not only ease travel but also boost trade, tourism, and economic growth in the region. The summit witnessed participation from key policymakers, including Chief Ministers of northeastern states, along with industry leaders and stakeholders, focusing on transforming connectivity and development in the region.
