![Mumbai’s railway platforms have a crowding problem that millions of commuters experience every single day.
From Dadar and Thane on Central Railway to Andheri and Borivali on Western Railway, some stations handle enormous passenger volumes while their busiest platforms face intense peak hour pressure.
And the numbers are only telling part of the story.
A platform can become extremely crowded because of the number of trains using it, interchange passengers, platform width and how quickly people can enter and leave.
With passenger numbers continuing to rise, Mumbai’s railway network is having to add platforms, widen existing spaces and improve passenger movement at some of its busiest stations.
For Mumbaikars, the daily platform rush is just another part of the city’s rhythm. 🚆

![Mumbai is known for its wealth, ambition and never ending hustle. But what about the air we breathe?
On 9 October 2026, The Times of India’s air quality tracker reported Mumbai’s AQI at 255. Other trackers showed different readings, so the figure should always be checked against its source and reporting time.
So what is making Mumbai’s air more polluted?
• Vehicle emissions from the city’s constant traffic
• Construction dust from redevelopment and infrastructure projects
• Road dust from busy roads and ongoing works
• Weather changes after the monsoon that can allow pollutants to accumulate
The biggest concern is fine particulate matter such as PM2.5, which can travel deep into the lungs. Prolonged exposure to polluted air can affect respiratory and cardiovascular health.
Mumbai’s air quality can also vary significantly from one neighbourhood to another. A citywide number does not tell the whole story.
Check local readings before heading out and take extra care when pollution levels are high.
A city’s progress should not come at the cost of the air its people breathe.

![Ever wondered why Mumbai suddenly feels like summer in October? ☀️
It is actually a combination of things.
October marks the transition from the southwest monsoon to the post monsoon season. As the rains retreat, cloud cover reduces and the city gets more direct sunshine. At the same time, Mumbai still has high humidity because of its location along the Arabian Sea.
Then there is the changing sea breeze. During the monsoon withdrawal, wind patterns can change and a delayed or weaker sea breeze can allow temperatures to rise further.
And Mumbai itself adds to the problem. Concrete, roads and buildings absorb and retain heat creating what is known as the urban heat island effect.
This October showed just how intense it can get. On October 2, Colaba recorded 37.4°C, around 5.6°C above normal and its highest October temperature in at least 13 years.
Research also suggests that humid heat during the post monsoon period is becoming a growing concern along India’s west coast.
So the next time you say “October mein itni garmi kyun hai?” now you know. 🥵
