Without trees, it was like a desert - only sand and hard soil.”
In Amadi, Bangladesh, without the protection of trees, Monowara has seen her village battle heat, floods, and storms. Snakes entered homes during floods, cattle starved without grass, and families lived in constant fear of the river’s edge. But today, through Friendship and the Mountains to Mangroves initiative, the landscape is changing. Saplings are becoming trees, which are bringing back shade. They protect homes from cyclones, restore habitats for wildlife, and bring joy to the community. What was once barren land is now growing into a safer, greener future for people, for animals, and for the planet.
