#assam: CJP President Abhijit Dike has issued a stern warning to the Assam Government following the detention of co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka (Ashu) and other party activists by Assam Police on September 27.
The activists had gathered for a volunteer meet-up at Dispur’s Choudhury Tila, the residence of AJP leader Kunki Choudhury. However, before the meeting could take place, Assam Police detained Ranka and other members of the organisation and took them to Kahilipara’s 10th APBn.
Reacting to the detention, Dike took to social media, stating that Ranka had been picked up from a private residence and that the authorities had not disclosed the charges or grounds for his detention.
“Release Ashu or I will come to Assam along with other CJP members. Himanta can arrest us all,” Dike warned, directing his statement at the Assam Government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Meanwhile, Ranka told the media that the Chief Minister was allegedly afraid of being questioned over issues including poor school conditions, Kaziranga-related rights and land transfers to corporations.
The detention has sparked a political confrontation, with CJP demanding Ranka’s release and raising questions over the circumstances surrounding the police action.
