#assam: Representatives of Indigenous communities from across the world have reportedly gathered in Kenya to stand in solidarity with Adivasi families in Assam facing a land dispute linked to a proposed luxury tourism project near Kaziranga National Park. The affected communities say their agricultural lands and livelihoods are at stake, while rights groups have raised concerns over land acquisition, displacement, environmental impacts and the participation of local communities in decisions affecting their territories.
The dispute has also drawn international attention following the arrest and detention of Indigenous rights defender Pranab Doley, who has been advocating for affected communities. International organisations have called for respect for Indigenous land rights and meaningful community participation in development decisions.
From Assam to Kenya, the message is increasingly global: development, conservation and tourism cannot be separated from the rights and voices of the communities who have lived on and cared for these landscapes.
