Hailakandi: Two Arrested, One Juvenile Detained in Alleged Rape and Murder of 15-Year-Old Schoolgirl

A brutal case involving the alleged rape and murder of a 15-year-old Class IX student in Olaichhara village of Hailakandi district has sparked widespread outrage across the Barak Valley. Making significant progress in the investigation, Hailakandi Police have arrested two accused persons and detained a juvenile for allegedly being involved in the crime.

According to police, the arrested accused have been identified as Joydeep Reang (18) and Prasenjit Malakar (19) both residents of Nagachhara village, which is adjacent to Olaichhara village.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the Class IX student before murdering her in a particularly brutal manner. Investigators suspect that a sharp weapon was used to inflict injuries to the victim's private parts, while severe head injuries are believed to have caused her death. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination and the final forensic report.

Police further stated that a juvenile has also been found to have allegedly been involved in the crime. The juvenile has been detained for questioning. In accordance with the law, the identity of the juvenile has not been disclosed.

The investigation is ongoing, with police collecting forensic evidence, scientific findings, and other material evidence to examine every aspect of the case. Authorities have stated that strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
