Local traditions and temple records suggest that the shrine existed even before 1907, when the area was still known as Uliyan. Over the decades, it evolved into one of the city’s most revered Shakti Peeths. Maa Rankini is worshipped as a form of Maa Kali, the goddess of power and protection. The deity has deep roots in the tribal traditions of the Singhbhum region, especially among the Bhumij community, where Rankini Devi has long been regarded as a guardian goddess. The present temple complex grew gradually after the formation of the temple committee in 1948, and in 1964 a consecrated idol of Maa Kali was installed, making the temple a major spiritual center for devotees from Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. Today, thousands visit this sacred temple seeking blessings, peace, and fulfillment of their wishes.
