#assam: Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi was detained by Assam Police on September 25 during a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
The demonstration was part of the Congress party’s nationwide protests against the Election Commission over concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The Congress has demanded Kumar’s immediate removal, an independent review of decisions taken during his tenure, and a review of changes made to electoral rolls. The party has also called for protests at state election commission offices across the country, with further demonstrations planned at district collectorates on September 28.
The protest comes amid controversy over reports of disagreements within the Election Commission regarding decisions related to the electoral roll revision process
