The BMC has proposed raising the entertainment tax for AC cinema halls and multiplexes from ₹60 to ₹400 per ticket, a 570% increase. Non-AC cinema halls could see the tax rise from ₹45 to ₹200.
But this is only a proposal for now. The revised rates still need approval from the Maharashtra government and will apply only after being officially notified. Existing rates continue until then.
The proposal also includes a 100% tax exemption for venues screening Marathi and Gujarati films and hosting Marathi and Gujarati plays and concerts.
