Every monsoon, Mumbai watches the same heartbreaking scene unfold.

Heaps of plastic, sewage and floating debris cover Juhu Beach after every high tide. But the beach isn’t creating this waste—the city is.

Recent clean-up drives removed around 950 metric tonnes of garbage from six Mumbai beaches, with Juhu alone accounting for about 365 metric tonnes. Hundreds of sanitation workers work tirelessly to restore the shoreline, only for the next high tide to bring another wave of waste.

The solution isn’t just cleaning beaches. It starts with stopping plastic and waste from entering Mumbai’s drains, creeks and rivers in the first place.

What do you think Mumbai should prioritise first—stronger waste management, stricter enforcement or better public awareness?
