In a first for Mumbai, the MMRDA has launched Public Transport Fridays in Bandra Kurla Complex, encouraging nearly 2 lakh professionals to use trains, metro, buses and shared transport instead of private vehicles every Friday. 

The initiative aims to reduce congestion, improve air quality and promote sustainable commuting in one of the city’s busiest business districts.
Your vada pav, samosa or sandwich may soon come in different packaging. The FSSAI has directed food vendors, restaurants and eateries to stop using newspapers for wrapping, packing or serving food, citing health risks linked to printing ink and unhygienic handling.

The move comes after officials found a popular Mumbai vada pav vendor allegedly using newspapers for food packaging during a recent inspection. Authorities have now asked all food businesses to switch to safer alternatives immediately.
The Maharashtra government has approved Singapore based urban planning firm Surbana Jurong as the master planner for the ambitious Mumbai 3.0 project. Spread across thousands of hectares near the Atal Setu and Navi Mumbai International Airport, the project aims to create a next generation city focused on business, technology, logistics and modern urban infrastructure.

Mumbai’s ambitious Water Metro project has taken a major step forward with the arrival of its first electric ferry at JNPT. Trial runs are expected to begin in June, marking the start of a new era of water based public transport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The first route is planned between Belapur and Gateway of India, aiming to reduce travel time, ease road congestion and offer a cleaner transport alternative using fully electric vessels.

Electric bus maker Olectra has announced plans to supply 1,000 electric buses to Mumbai’s BEST undertaking by the end of the year. The move is expected to strengthen Mumbai’s public transport network while supporting the city’s shift towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.

With the new additions, commuters can expect improved bus availability, lower emissions and a larger electric fleet on Mumbai roads in the coming months.
