#News || Assam has suffered a diplomatic setback after the proposed visit of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to Guwahati was officially cancelled.
Confirming the development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government received the information from the Ministry of External Affairs. As a result, the India-Japan Summit will now be held entirely in New Delhi.
Sarma said the cancellation is disappointing, recalling that a planned visit by a Japanese Prime Minister to Assam was also called off in 2019.
However, he expressed optimism that Assam’s partnership with Japan will continue to grow. He added that the state is likely to host a dedicated investor-focused programme with Japanese stakeholders in the future.
