Renowned Social Worker Swapnodeep Sen Takes Orphaned Children on Durga Puja Pandal Tour in Silchar

Silchar: For most children, Durga Puja is a time of family outings, new clothes, festive delicacies, and cherished memories with loved ones. But for children growing up without the warmth and support of a family, such moments can often remain distant dreams. Seeking to bridge this emotional gap, renowned social worker Swapnodeep Sen, continuing his annual tradition, once again took children from a shelter home on a special Durga Puja pandal tour across Silchar.

The children visited several prominent Durga Puja mandaps across the town, experiencing the festive spirit, colourful decorations, and grandeur of the celebrations. The outing was not merely a tour of beautifully decorated pandals; it was an effort to ensure that these young hearts, too, could experience the happiness, excitement, and sense of belonging that make the festival so special. The day concluded with a meal at Viva, adding another memorable moment to the children's festive experience.

Earlier, as part of his festive outreach, Sen had also distributed clothes among children residing in shelter homes across Silchar, ensuring that they could welcome the festive season with dignity and happiness. These efforts reflect his continued commitment to making celebrations inclusive, particularly for children who may otherwise miss out on the joys that many take for granted.

For children who grow up without parental care or the support of an immediate family, such initiatives carry a significance far beyond the event itself. They create cherished memories, nurture emotional connections, and remind them that they are not forgotten. Through these efforts, Sen seeks to ensure that the absence of a family does not deprive these children of the simple joys of childhood.

Known for his long-standing commitment to social service, Swapnodeep Sen has dedicated years to working for vulnerable and underprivileged communities. His annual Puja initiative reflects a deeply humane understanding of service—that sometimes, the greatest contribution is not material assistance alone, but the gift of happiness, attention, and affection.

As the children returned with memories of illuminated pandals, festive moments, and a meal shared together, the initiative conveyed a powerful message: every child deserves to celebrate, every child deserves to feel loved, and no child should ever feel alone during a festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

For Swapnodeep Sen, these initiatives are more than annual activities; they are an expression of a belief that has guided his social service journey for years—that humanity is not measured merely by what we give, but by how deeply we care.

Hope for Gems Extends Festive Cheer Through ‘Sharadiyar Upahar’

With Durga Puja just around the corner, the spirit of sharing and community service is gaining momentum across the Barak Valley. Going beyond the usual celebrations, the “Sharadiyar Upahar” initiative aims to bring the joy of the festival to children and families who may otherwise remain away from the festivities.

As part of the initiative, Hope for Gems has donated clothes at the Barak Valley Welfare Development Society. The donated clothes will be distributed among children and residents of several shelter homes and adopted villages, ensuring that the warmth and happiness of Puja reaches people from different sections of society.

Under the initiative, clothes will be distributed across 18 shelter homes and four adopted villages. The campaign is being carried out with the objective of making the festive season more inclusive and meaningful, particularly for children living in shelter homes.

The initiative is not limited to clothing donations. As part of the Puja celebrations, the children will also be taken on a Puja tour, giving them an opportunity to visit Puja pandals, experience the festive atmosphere and enjoy the celebrations like other children of their age. The effort is intended to create not only material support but also happy memories that the children can cherish.

The organisers have appealed to individuals, organisations and well-wishers to come forward and contribute clothes to the campaign. Donations from the community will help reach more children and families and make the initiative larger and more meaningful.

Durga Puja is a celebration of togetherness, compassion and happiness. Through “Sharadiyar Upahar”, Hope for Gems hopes to ensure that the festive spirit reaches those who are often left out of the celebrations.

This Puja, let us celebrate not only by receiving, but by giving. Let us share our happiness and make someone’s festival brighter.

When Games Were Simple, and Hearts Were Simpler

From Snake to Clash of Clans—and a generation that learned to stay

By Hriday Debnath

There was a time when mobile gaming was simple. Before high-end graphics, endless updates and hundreds of choices, we had Snake on our Nokia phones. The graphics were basic, the screen was tiny, but we were happy. We didn't need the latest technology to enjoy a game; we simply enjoyed the game we had.

Then came the smartphone era. Temple Run arrived in 2011, Mini Militia became a favourite among friends, Subway Surfers followed in 2012, and Clash of Clans became a huge part of mobile gaming. Later, My Talking Tom brought another kind of simple entertainment. These games may look ordinary compared with today's games, but for many people, they carry extraordinary memories.

Perhaps what we miss isn't really the games.

We miss the people, the laughter and the time when those games were part of our lives.

From Games to Relationships

Today, we have unlimited choices. If we don't like a game, we uninstall it and find another. And sometimes, modern relationships seem to work the same way.

A small misunderstanding happens. A conversation becomes difficult. Someone loses interest. Instead of trying to understand, people sometimes start searching for someone new.

We have become better at finding new connections, but perhaps less patient at maintaining old ones.

Love was never supposed to be perfect. Just like the old games, relationships have limitations, difficult levels and frustrating moments. But perhaps the beauty was in staying, trying again and learning together.

Snake didn't have amazing graphics, yet we played it for years. Mini Militia wasn't perfect, yet we remember the friends we played it with. Sometimes, what makes something special isn't how perfect it is, but how much of our life we have shared with it.

Technology will keep changing. Games will become better, faster and more realistic. But human feelings don't need an upgrade.

A game can be deleted and downloaded again. A memory cannot.

Maybe the problem isn't that we have too many choices.

Maybe we have simply forgotten how to value the choice we already made.
