Vendor policy was expected to bring some order to Kalupur, but the ground reality still looks different. Despite spaces being allotted for vegetable and fruit vendors, roadside selling continues, with long traffic jams reported during peak hours. The issue is not about stopping anyone’s business — it is about following the rules and ensuring that traffic and public movement are not affected. If the rules are being enforced strictly in other areas, why does the same action not seem to be happening here? What do you think — is enough attention being given to this issue? ⚫ BLACK DAY AT NIRMA UNIVERSITY | STUDENTS PROTEST Nirma University in Ahmedabad has come under scrutiny following an alleged incident near the girls’ hostel that has sparked a protest by students. According to reports, students residing in the H-4 girls’ hostel complained after a video allegedly showing an obscene act by a worker at the construction site of the new girls’ hostel surfaced. Students have alleged that appropriate action was not taken after the complaint was submitted to the university administration. The reported installation of a green safety net around the hostel has also become a point of discussion among students. Following a social media campaign, students observed a ‘Black Day’ on October 1, wearing black clothes and carrying placards across the campus. More than 1,000 students were reportedly involved in the protest. The protest has brought questions about campus safety, student security, accountability and the university’s response to complaints into focus. The key question now is: What action will the university administration take following the students’ protest, and what will be its official response to the allegations? Note: The details above are based on reported information and allegations raised by students. The allegations should be considered in light of the university administration’s official response, if any. <nis:link nis:type=tag nis:id=nirmauniversity nis:value=NirmaUniversity nis:enabled=true nis:link/> <nis:link nis:type=tag nis:id=ahmedabad nis:value=Ahmedabad nis:enabled=true nis:link/> <nis:link nis:type=tag nis:id=studentprotest nis:value=StudentProtest nis:enabled=true nis:link/> <nis:link nis:type=tag nis:id=blackday nis:value=BlackDay nis:enabled=true nis:link/> <nis:link nis:type=tag nis:id=campussafety nis:value=CampusSafety nis:enabled=true nis:link/>

Allegations of inappropriate gestures and harassment by some workers near Nirma University’s girls hostel have raised serious questions over women’s safety on campus. According to the allegations, female students complained to the university and informed security, but were allegedly asked not to take the matter outside. It has also been alleged that students were warned of strict action, including possible admission cancellation, if the matter reached the media, and were advised to wear “appropriate” clothes. After the matter reached the media, instead of visible action against the workers, green curtains were reportedly put up on the girls hostel windows — raising questions about whether restricting the girls’ visibility and sunlight is being treated as a solution to their safety concerns. Students raised their voices for safety. The bigger question now is: Is putting up curtains really the answer to women’s safety? What do you think?
