National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa Leh

The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh, is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, and was established for the preservation, promotion, and development of Sowa-Rigpa as a model institution for developing high standards of teaching, training, research, and patient care as well as to invoke a scientific outlook to the knowledge of Sowa-Rigpa System of Medicine. It was established in 1976 in Leh-Ladakh for Research and Development of Himalayan art of healing "Sowa-Rigpa", popularly known as Tibetan or Amchi medicine. Since its inception this Research Institute has been doing considerable work for preservation and promotion of Sowa-Rigpa in India. The Institute's mission is to uphold and advance the Sowa-Rigpa medical system.
